UAE Business & Accounting Briefing: 10 October 2026 — Trade, SME Finance, and Digital Payments

Today's UAE Business Snapshot

Good morning from the UAE Business Desk. I'm Aisha, and here's your daily briefing for 10 October 2026 — the stories shaping trade, finance, and accounting across the Emirates.

Abu Dhabi–India trade corridor widens. The Abu Dhabi Chamber has signed a fresh agreement with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in Mumbai, deepening ties between the UAE and Indian business communities. The deal is expected to open new doors for cross-border investment, joint ventures, and trading activity — a positive signal for UAE SMEs already plugged into India's supply chains or eyeing expansion into that market.

SME financing gets a boost. Numou and Comera Financial Holding have partnered to expand SME financing and payments in the UAE. Separately, LuLu Money Business has teamed up with Mastercard to build a more connected financial ecosystem for small and medium enterprises. Both moves point to a maturing SME lending landscape — with faster access to working capital and integrated payment tools.

Dubai's cashless momentum. The Dubai Cashless Strategy has exceeded its 2026 targets, reinforcing the emirate's push toward a fully digital payments economy. For SMEs, this means card, wallet, and bank-transfer reconciliation is no longer optional — it's the default. Businesses still relying on manual cash logs risk falling behind on both speed and compliance.

Private credit growth on the horizon. Moody's notes that Saudi Arabia and the UAE are set to drive GCC private credit growth. For UAE SMEs, this signals more diverse funding options beyond traditional bank loans — but also greater scrutiny on financial reporting and bookkeeping quality.

On the global front, a WTTC study suggests SME productivity improvements could unlock USD 63 billion in value — a reminder that operational efficiency, not just revenue growth, is where real profit lives.

Accounting, VAT & Tax Watch

No major FTA announcements today, but the underlying themes from this week's headlines carry direct accounting and tax implications for UAE businesses.

1. Cross-border trade means cross-border VAT

With UAE–India trade expanding, more SMEs will deal with import VAT, export documentation, and reverse charge mechanisms. Under UAE VAT law, imports are subject to 5% VAT, and businesses must ensure customs documentation aligns with their VAT returns. Errors here are among the most common triggers for FTA queries.

2. Corporate Tax readiness for growing SMEs

As SME financing expands, lenders and investors will increasingly ask for audited financials and Corporate Tax compliance. With the 9% Corporate Tax regime now firmly in place, businesses accessing new credit lines should ensure their bookkeeping is audit-ready — clean ledgers, proper expense classification, and timely filing.

3. Digital payments = digital audit trails

Dubai's cashless push means more transactions flow through banks and payment gateways. That's good news for compliance — but only if your accounting system can reconcile multiple payment channels efficiently. Manual Excel reconciliation is a recipe for mismatched VAT returns.

4. Payroll and WPS remain a priority

With more SMEs hiring to support growth, WPS compliance and accurate payroll accounting are non-negotiable. Late or incorrect WPS submissions can trigger fines and freeze salary payments — a risk no growing business can afford.

What This Means for UAE SMEs

Today's headlines paint a clear picture: the UAE business environment is expanding, digitising, and formalising. Here's how to stay ahead:

Whether you're in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, or Umm Al Quwain, the message is the same: compliance and efficiency are competitive advantages.
